Struggles of an overweight mother and daughter By: laydecker
I have been over weight for the past 7 years bouncing up and down the whole time. I eat healthy and small portions but because of medication it is a necessary evil. Now my oldest daughter is becoming over weight and I’m not sure how to handle it. She always seems to be hungry and even though we don’t have junk food in the house she always seems to be eating something that’s bad for her. She hates salads, fruit, and vegetables and I’m not sure how to change that. I have tried several different recipes and even frozen foods that are on the healthier side, she just won’t eat it. When all we have is food that she doesn’t like she just goes to friends houses and eats there. Her friends seem to be living on fast food and garbage but they are like a size three compared to my daughter who looks at food and gains ten pounds. I don’t know how to help her. She has gotten so down on herself that she has just given up. She has tried watching what she eats but like a lot of other people with weight issues instead of watching the numbers on the scale go down she sees them creep up then she gets frustrated and starts eating crap again. I just don’t know how to help her. She won’t talk to a counselor about her food addiction, she won’t even talk to her family doctor. When she talks to me she just cries. How does a parent help their child start exercising and eating right when she feels all hope is gone? I wish I had the answer because I would love for this to no longer be a problem for her. I’m afraid I am going to have to wait until she is ready to commit to changing her life but what if that never happens?
